Here is a list of my favorite pre-handwriting and hand-strengthening toys for preschool-aged children!
Play-Doh Swirlin Smoothies Blender
I love both of these options because there are so many opportunities for strengthening in both sets!
Play-Doh Stylin Salon Playset
Dustless Sidewalk Chalk
This option will make both moms and your OT happy, it is mess-free and also mimics a writing utensil more so than typical chalk.
Crayola Bathtub Crayons
These are my favorite bathtub crayons because they seem to mimic a typical writing utensil better than others that I have seen.
Squigz
Squigz are an all-time favorite of mine! You can use them for little ones (when supervised) or toddlers! You can build, pull, pop, and squish with these fun toys!
ABC tracing board
I love this for two reasons: the utensil is small and great for little hands AND it gives proprioceptive input as your kiddo works on their letters.
Legos (ages 4+)
Legos are a classic toy that not only helps to strengthen hands but also helps develop visual perceptual skills (following instructions AND using hands to make model).
Games with tongs
Tongs help build the intrinsic muscles of the hands, these muscles are very important for all writing and coloring tasks.
Shelby's Snack Counting
Sneaky Squirrel Game
Writing Utensils
Crayon Rocks (ages 3-4)
Broken Crayons (ages 4-5)
Just grab a box of regular crayons and break them in half- yes break them in half! I have tried all different types of crayons that are advertised for the preschool aged group and this is by far the best option I have found!
If you have any questions, feel free to grab a time on my calendar to chat. I love chatting toys! :)
